Sugared Cranberries

Sugared cranberries, even if you don’t like sour, or tart foods, this cranberry recipe is sure to be a hit with you. I love to see how the sugar sparkles off of the red cranberries in even the simpliest of jars. Nothing says the Christmas holiday like the sugard cranberries sitting on the table in grandma’s crystal bowl, either.

Ingredients for Sugared Cranberries

  • Cranberries: 1 Cup of cranberries (or more). Typically, we use the whole bag (or two)
  • Water: 1 Cup of water
  • Sugar: 2 cups of sugar, divided

Directions

Step One: Soak

Place 1 cup water and bring the water to boil

Stir in 1 cup of sugar to the hot water to dissolve

Remove from heat

Let the water stand until warm

Add cranberries

Place bowl or plate over the cranberries to keep the berried under the liquid

Refrigerate overnight.

NOTE: Do not skip soaking these berries overnight. By skipping this step, the berries are not able to hold on to the sugar in step two… and if the sugar doesn’t stick as much as you want it to, by letting them soak overnight, they will still hold that light sweetness that you are looking for.

Step Two: Sugar

Using a slotted spoon, remove the cranberries, a few at a time

Toss or roll each cranberry into the remaining 1 cup of sugar.

Coat as many as possible

Spread in a single layer until dry.

NOTE: Most recipes will say to coat lightly. We have found that by coating lightly, you can coat several times lightly to ensure that there is plenty of sparkling goodness on each cranberry.

Step Three: Store or Serve

Store the sugared cranberries in a glass jar, but not airtight.

If you store them airtight, if not fully dried, they will get “sticky”

PERSONAL NOTE: This is not my number 1 recipe, but don’t let that fool you. These yummy red delights are hard to stay out of once you pop a few.

How to Store Sugared Cranberries

Store sugared cranberries in an airtight container if you live in a moist climate, if not, there is not need to put these in an airtight container.

Making Ahead of Time

The sugared cranberries are best if eaten within a few days of making.
